Flex your creative muscles through pottery handbuilding at MudFire, a clayworks studio and gallery in Decatur. More than just a classroom, MudFire operates somewhat like a gym: an open studio with a monthly membership where creative hobbyists and pros alike come in to practice their craft, with “personal trainers” or group classes led by pros also available. One of the perks from being led by a pro? They’re there to smooth over your creations so handles don’t fall off, the fire gets hot enough to make the wares safe to eat from and advise you on the best glaze colors for your piece.
Owners Daphne and Deanna met at Georgia State University, where they both studied the art and craft of pottery. From there, they've been involved in Atlanta's ceramic scene for 15 years, settling in at MudFire to educate and strengthen the craft community in the Southeast. They've added an artist residency program at MudFire, maintained a rotating gallery of regional and national ceramic artists and drawn in creative types from all over Atlanta.
