A Persian Dinner + Wine For Two At Sufi's

There aren't many things better than sinking into the sumptuous, pillow-backed seating of Sufi's whilst enjoying the signature Persian fare. Although, we're willing to bet that doing so with a glass of wine in hand, comes pretty darn close.

Scout Notes

Intown Atlanta is blessed with a cornucopia of diverse eateries that represent countries far and wide, but up until three years ago, Persian cuisine was not one of them. And then, Sufi's happened. Ever since its grand opening, Sufi's has been doing right by Persian cuisine—and proving to Atlanta just how good kabobs and other Persian entrees are when all of the ingredients are fresh and the bread is house-made (both things you get when the owner spends about a year searching for the perfect chef). Plus, the specialty is the kabobs, and you really can't not love any sort of meat skewered and chargrilled over an open flame. It's a fact.

Hailing from the city of Shiraz in Iran, owner Mohsen says he spent quite a bit of time perfecting Sufi's—making sure the interior was Persian-inspired and romantic, finding the absolute perfect location, and as we mentioned, searching for just the right chef. And it worked. The dimly lit, plush restaurant is the perfect space to sample from the menu's array of dishes, from the creamy yogurt-based dips to kabobs cooked over an open flame. And now, you and a dining companion can sample 'em all. Well, almost all. Start things off with a glass of wine each – Sufi's has an excellent selection from which you can make your choices. Then, an appetizer to share. Now the traditional plate with some herbs, walnuts and cheese along with the freshly-baked bread are both already included. So here's your chance to branch out and try something new. The world is your kabob, as it were. In addition to what is arguably the best hummus in all of Atlanta, you'll also have options like Mast Spinach and Sauteed Eggplant. There really is no wrong choice, just remember, this part's for sharin'. (Sorry.) The main part of the meal though (literally) is the slew of kabobs – and you'll each get you're own. There's a whole page devoted to 'em on the menu – and as avid fans of both open flames and cooking with sticks, we wholeheartedly approve. And don't let the simple appearance of the kebabs fool you – Mohsen worked with 8 chefs to perfect the intricacies of each and every recipe, down to the four varieties of rice that can accompany the kabobs. While the Koobideh Kabob is by far the favorite, we're mostly impressed by their versatile take on chicken – each chicken kabob on the menu tastes entirely different from the others. And that, folks, is because – Persian food? It isn't the easiest thing to make, as it turns out. Which might explain why it took so long for a solid Persian restaurant to open its doors in Atlanta. But we're so thankful they did. Now if you'll excuse us, we're about to get comfortable.
