Bread & Butter Class at The Learning Kitchen with Homestead ATL
The Learning Kitchen offers hands-on classes, supplies, pop-ups, demos and preservation events – all geared to the home cook. Their mission is to bring together generations for the purpose of learning and sharing wonderful traditions including canning, fermenting, bread baking, and more! This time around we will be learning the almost scientific yet artful world of making bread and butter 100% from scratch.
What To Expect
- Take home recipe, instructions & an actual French baguette you make yourself
- Take home recipe, instructions & an actual jar of homemade butter
- Tastings of fresh made warm french bread & butter
In the words of instructor Lyn:
“Some of you know my husband, Tom, has been a great bread baker for over 40 years. He has changed, added, perfected his methods over the years – and what he’s doing now is the best ever. He’ll teach the bread-making portion of the class, while I teach the butter-making fun.
This is what I label the “French Style” - meaning flaky, crunchy crusts along with a center texture that’s light and airy and not too dense. Melt in your mouth goodness! This is so simple and delicious, which is why it’s been very popular among seasoned bread makers.
It’s hand-done always (no bread machine here!) but no-knead and very low yeast. Guess what? No added sugar either – but tastes as sweet as if you did!
The recipe allows you to make bread loaves, ciabatta, baguettes, boules, even foccacia. You’ll learn how to mix and how long to let it rest. Then you’ll shape into French Baguettes for this class – Bake it up and take it home.
We’ll also make up homemade butter – so easy and so much better tasting that what you can buy. And so tasty on that just-made warm baguette! You’ll learn various ways to make it and what are the best creams to use. Then take home a jar of this butter, freshly made by you!
You’ll get complete take-home instructions, recipes, and resources for both the bread and butter for safe and sure bread making and canning.”
Is your mouth watering yet? Cause we ruined like three computers here at the Hand-Picked Atlanta office from drooling on our keyboards while we typed Lyn’s description of this Bread and Butter class.
