Connie, ZenTea's official Keeper of the Leaves, credits her patrons as the inspiration for her tea cocktail creations. As it happens, a number of ZenTea's loyalists have commented that their frosty matcha latte or iced coconut tea would be all the more refreshing with a little splash of "the good stuff". After some wild brainstorming and thorough experimentation, Connie has crafted a series of spirit-ed tea libations that's she excited to share and she'll be hosting tutorials to teach you (yes, you) how to infuse and whip up your own tea-based cocktails.
The drinks that Connie has crafted in her tea-spiking crusade are multi-layered elixirs to soothe the soul, utilizing over 200 varieties of tea and a bounty of herbs and botanicals available in ZenTea's aresenal. From oolong martinis infused with lemongrass to pina coloada spritzers with a hint of rosehip, she’ll show you how tea can be incorporated into almost any kind of liquor-laced thirst quencher. Oftentimes, the only way to achieve similar sweet and fruity flavors in the mixology world is to add sugars and syrups. Teas and infusion methods provide some delicious drinkable sugar alternatives that ultimately result in lighter, lower calorie cocktails with an added helping of oh-so-healthy antioxidants. But don't expect all of ZenTea’s libations to be pure sweetness and light. There are also smoky lapsang-and-bourbon sippers and dark, spicy toddies to speak of. The crowning jewel of this thoroughly comprehensive class, however, will be a cold matcha latte martini made with a rich chocolate whiskey. There is also the knock-your-socks-off Gin & Tonic infused with eucalyptus, lavender, and hibiscus.
Before it’s over, you’ll learn all about the infusing process, sip some of the ZenTea staff’s favorite alcoholic tea creations, and receive a copy of their most zen-inducing cocktail recipes to try with your own liquor cabinet. You'll also enjoy a selection of ZenTea's homemade desserts to snack on while you shake, stir and sip. And to all of you studious cocktail enthusiasts who attend a class, we'd like to say: thank you and we will happily accept any and all invitations to your next tea party.
