It’s rare that any 3 a.m. phone call from the sidewalk turns into something positive. But for Midtown’s World of Beer co-owner Jerry Paulson, it turned into the call that opened he and his business partner’s third restaurant location—Jerry spotted it while walking past the storefront during a visit to Atlanta—and spurred a move from Tampa to Atlanta. And lucky for Midtown, because World of Beer brings a diverse selection of local, domestic and international beers of a variety of flavors and creativity without any of the beer-snob attitude.
Their beer selection is truly vast, and rounds out at nearly 550 in total. Of the 550, 53 are on tap, and the selection rotates on the weekly. With this much beer, the staff has to know a lot, so each employee goes through two weeks of beer school before starting. With their extensive training, they can answer your questions and make recommendations. Whether you’re into classic Budweiser or more of a Creature Comforts kind of drinker, these beer-tenders can find something you like—and they’re willing to put a sample tasting behind each recommendation. Their love of beer extends beyond the surface, too: the bar is equipped with an infuser the staff uses to flavor beers with their own recipes, like turning a wheat into a strawberry wheat with fresh strawberries. The flavor changes daily, so be sure to ask what they’re infusing. And while World of Beer is truly a world of beer, they also offer a big selection of beer-friendly fares like cheese plates, tacos, flatbreads, sandwiches and more complemented by a beer pairing suggestion to go with it.For your Hand-Picked World of Beers experience, you’ll get two flights of beer and a large Bavarian-style pretzel to split with a friend. The beers can be your choice, but those knowledgeable bartenders are ready to help you curate a flight based on your preferences. The pretzel is big, and definitely shareable between two people either out to watch the game (they’ve got all your televised sports) or just enjoying a few beers.
