When it comes to cocktails, the unique and varied spirits and liqueurs that serve as their backbone are a part of the industry usually only encountered by bartenders and restaurant industry folks. However, thanks to Tavernpointe’s new lineup of summer cocktail classes, cocktail lovers across Atlanta can now get an inside look at the spirits used to make their favorite drinks.
Each summer cocktail class at Tavernpointe will provide a peek behind the curtain into the world of distilling and brewing, courtesy of some special guest instructors. In June, will Kevin Mulcahey from Virgil Kane will expose the one-of-a-kind aging process used to make the distillery’s unique infused bourbons and rye whiskeys. In July, the folks from Atlanta’s own Reformation Brewery will visit to talk all things beer. You heard us right, in addition to sharing their history and their brewing processes, they’ll provide some insight into the oft-misunderstood world of beer cocktails, and how they can be done right. Finally, to close out the summer, St. Germain’s brand ambassador, Natasha Samone will arrive at Tavernpointe to provide some background on this superb distillery and how they make their unique elderflower liqueur.
In addition to instruction from the guest teachers, each class will also include a step-by-step cocktail lesson by Tavernpointe’s bartender-in-chief, Jonathan Turner. Jonathan will demonstrate how to make two cocktails using the spirit or beer you’ve just learned about. Not only will the drinks serve as a delicious conclusion to the class, but their use of simple ingredients and Jonathan’s straightforward instruction will also make them easy to recreate at home. If you’ve been considering dipping your toes into the world of cocktails but don’t know where to begin, any of these classes will set you up with a couple great drinks to get your start in mixology. Plus, the face-to-face interaction with the folks from Virgil Kane, Reformation, and St. Germain will give you some rare insight into the stories behind the cocktails you whip up for friends and family this summer!
