At their Decatur and new Virginia Highland location, Solstice's selection of barre, yoga and pilates classes aims to get you feeling trong, stretched, flexible and refreshed. Who says getting fit has to hurt?
Who says getting fit has to hurt? Certainly not Solstice Urban Retreat- in fact, the core of Solstice’s classes is, well, the core, and making sure we’re feeling strong, stretched, flexible and fit. Nowhere in there is the requirement to push ourselves to our physical limits, leaving us sore and possibly injured. If you’re like us, you want a workout that gets results and takes good care of us. Well, we found it: Solstice Urban Retreat’s offering of barre, yoga and pilates classes that make us feel great, inside and out. Recently expanding from their home in Decatur to a second new location in Virginia Highland, Solstice Urban Retreat is the result of Kristen’s search for a regular yoga practice that could accommodate families. Yep, at Solstice, moms and dads who want to get their fitness on can bring the kids. Lest ye think this is a class with yoga tots running around underfoot, be advised: the kids’ classes are going on while the adult classes are in session, so adults get a tough workout to themselves, and the kids get a fun intro to movement. Everybody wins! These group barre, yoga, and pilates classes focus on tough core and breathwork, and now, dear Scouts, you get try three as you ease into a better version of yourself on the new year.
Kristen’s all about that variety- while she’s a yogi through and through, she also really loves barre, and couldn’t find that combination along with pilates. Speaking of variety, the classes at Solstice are designed to use teachers’ unique talents and strengths, so every class is different- no canned combinations here, no way, no how. In barre classes, you’ll be taught different choreography every week to lengthen and strengthen using isometric engagement and graceful ballet-inspired movements. We’re pretty sure there isn’t a single person out there who doesn’t want Michelle Obama-style toned arms and glutes for days, so the teacher will always challenge you and keep you on your toes (see what we did there?). In yoga classes, you’ll get all the elements- stretch, meditation, and breathwork to help you find your zen while getting a hard-core yoga workout. Let’s not forget about the final place in the trifecta of awesome, pilates. The classes are taught on the mat, bringing together breathwork and challenging core-strengthening movements to leave you feeling stronger in body and mind. Seeing a theme here? A retreat is a place people go to restore- and Kristen and the gang at Solstice Urban Retreat certainly have created a relaxing space with an inviting vibe.
