Scouts, don’t fret about battling the mall. We’ve curated a collection of our 25 favorite local Scoutmob makers and added food, cocktails, live music, and artist demos and DIYs to make the holidays actually feel festive- the way they’re supposed to be.
It’s a sad state of affairs at the mall this time of year. We understand- you’ve tried hard to make this Christmas magical for the folks in your life, but somehow, you’ve still found yourself alone at Lenox Square, drinking wine at California Pizza Kitchen’s bar, steeling yourself for an afternoon of fighting crowds, crying children, and cookie cutter gifts that make your friends and family say “meh.” As you gulp that last drop of pinot grigio, you think to yourself, “there has to be a better way.” And there is. Yes, Scouts, we’re here to make Christmas shopping fun, easy and booze-filled (but not in that depressing drinking-alone-at-the-mall kind of way.)
Basically, what we're trying to say is welcome to the very first Holiday Makers Market, hosted at the Scoutmob Headquarters at Strongbox West. We’ve curated a collection of our 25 favorite local Scoutmob makers on the evening of December 18, added food, cocktails, live music, and artist demos and DIYs to present to you The Anti-Mall. It’s a relaxing shopping experience, so if you’re just over it, come on down to refresh and get back in the spirit of the holidays, or if you’re like us and love the rush of waiting until the last minute, yep, we got you, boo. The Pinewood is whipping up some Proof Old Fashioned cocktails to get the party going, and small plates by Homespun provide a savory and sweet accompaniment to the festivities, plus, we’re featuring local businesses Savor Wine Boutique, hot chocolate by Cacao, and coffee by Firelight Coffee roasters. And we haven’t even gotten to the makers yet!
As you feel yourself relaxing into that Christmassy wave of happiness, you can peruse the works of 25 local makers like Beautiful Briny Sea artisanal dry goods, Piebox pastry savers for the bakers in your life, durable canvas and leather goods from Sturdy Brothers, and ginger syrups and infused honeys from Verdant Kitchen, which was selected as one of Oprah's Favorite Things for 2015. Also joining us is our neighbors in Strongbox West, Factory Girls, who are bringing together a collective of all their designers, and who’ll also be hosting DIYs in their workshop space throughout the night- learn to make your own infinity scarf, or make a ring (It makes a great gift- nothing says “I hope your holidays are as magical as you are!” like a personally filed and textured ring, right?) Our other neighbors, Revive Bath & Body will be hosting soap-making demos throughout the night as well. Make sure you get there early- grab bags full of maker goodness from the likes of Beautiful Briny Sea, Glak Love, Revive and Strongbox West have added some products and surprises, and we're giving them away until they’re gone. Never fear, Scouts, we have your holiday shopping, ahem… in the bag this year. So grab a friend and vow to ditch the mall this year- you’re making the world a better place by spreading cheer and locally made love, and that’s what the holidays are really about, right?
