Take your jewelry game to the next level by designing, making and rocking your own self made bezel set cabochon stone ring.
For anyone who’s ever gotten distracted looking at shiny things or for whoever has wondered how to mold metals to fit their own personal style or folks who just like to work with their hands, we got you covered with this metalsmith meets fine jewelry meets total badass class. Yep, our friend Starr Miller – jeweler extraordinaire of Pieces of Starr - is teaching a make your own bezel set stone ring class. Starr worked in a corporate job before turning her attention to making jewelry full time and getting trained as a professional metalsmith. These days she has her own studio and jewelry line called Pieces of Starr based out of Atlanta that sells unique, handmade pieces online and in specialty boutiques. Luckily for us, she’s sharing her expert knowledge through small, intimate jewelry making classes.
In addition to her professional metalsmithing expertise, Starr has a vast understanding of contemporary design trends, and she has a knack for walking her students through every aspect of the jewelry making process while also setting them free to make any design idea a reality. "The vision of Pieces of Starr is to create daring jewelry for the strangely sexy human," she tells us.
Learn the basics of silversmithing including forming, filing, texturing, soldering, and polishing and then "bezel set" (see pics above) your own cabochon stone in your self-made ring. This ring making course is a 2-day workshop, which consists of three hours Saturday and three hours Sunday (students must come to BOTH days). The first day will be spent making the foundation ring and designing a unique pattern and the second day will be spent choosing from a variety of stellar cabochon stones and learning how to bezel set that stone in the ring. Starr has the most beautiful collection of stones to choose from and all materials are included! However if you have a stone from your personal collection that you would like to set, by all means bring what you have!
And of course, 'cause her classes are on the weekends, complimentary adult beverages are provided to sip on while you get to smithin’.
