Executive Chef Taria Camerino and professional Cellist Okorie Johnson host a 5-course dinner “flavored” by the sounds of cello music.
Yes, we said MUSIC IN MOUTH. But, okay, not in the macabre way you're picturing right now. This dinner involves tasting the (food and cocktail-based) flavors of local cellist Okorie Johnson
, as translated by award winning Taria Camerino
. And the evening they've created is unlike any other we've ever heard of (or tasted): a five-course flavor profile of songs from Okories's CD, Liminal, performed live alongside Taria's inspired courses. In other words, we will be "tasting" the notes as we hear them. Intrigued? Good. Let us explain....
Taria, executive chef of Ladybird Grove and Mess Hall and the soon to open Golden Eagle, has a rare form of Synesthesia
, which essentially means instead of just hearing music or seeing colors, she tastes
them. It sounds trippy, but this cross-sensory experience is her reality (and likely part of the reason she's ended up working so creatively with fair-trade, hand-made sweets). Taria has created a menu of flavors as inspired by the sounds of cello music from Okorie and we'll all get the experience of such cross-wired taste buds. As Okorie plays each song, a different course will be served to coordinate with the music.
We can't give away too much of the details, so we'll leave it at that. But we can say this: with Taria and Okorie together, this will be an experience you can't afford not
to see. Or hear. Or taste.... You know, whichever of your sense speaks to you most!
