Downtown Atlanta isn’t necessarily the city’s top destination for dining out, but JP Atlanta is looking to change that. And with its central location on Peachtree Street, we think we’ve found your new favorite pre-concert or post-sporting event dinner destination. The one-year-old restaurant, helmed by executive chef Julio Delgado, resides in the Indigo Hotel, but its focus on refined southern flavors will appeal to local diners just as much as – if not even more than – visiting travelers. Chef Delgado has created a menu that not only pays tribute to Southern cuisine but also celebrates local and regional farmers and producers. The result is a dining experience that is simultaneously familiar and inspired. To give you the best possible taste of what JP Atlanta has to offer, we’ve assembled a dinner for two that will allow you to sample all the highlights from chef Julio’s menu.
You and your date will start off with a couple drinks of your choice from JP’s well-stocked bar. You can go for one of the restaurant’s signature seasonal concoctions or imbibe on a well-executed classic cocktail. You can also keep things simple with a glass of wine or a beer from JP’s locally focused list of craft brews. Once your drink orders are sorted, your first taste of JP Atlanta’s New American menu will be a small plate to share. The restaurant’s selection of shared plates includes everything from deviled egg salad and lobster empanadas to country bread, but nothing will awaken your appetite quite like the Georgia Spread Sampler, which includes generous portions of Georgia Peanut Hummus, Pimento Cheese, seasonal vegetables, and fresh baked crusty bread.
When it’s time to move on to your main course, nothing on Julio’s menu pays tribute to southern cuisine quite like the Blackened Snapper, which pairs a perfectly cooked cut of fish with Carolina gold rice and regional summer squash. This dish also comes with a signature chorizo sauce, which is silky smooth and full of flavor without being too spicy or overpowering. JP Atlanta’s Seared Scallops served with grits, tomato confit, and lemon salad also deliciously honors the region. While Julio definitely has a knack for seafood, he also cooks a mean burger and consistently serves one of the best Ribeye’s in town (which goes great with a side of Patatas Bravas and tomato aioli). Finally, when it comes time for dessert, chef Julio has made things easy by offering a simple and concise menu of sweet treats, including Cookies and Milk, Lemon Glazed Doughnuts, and the best-selling Brandy Bread Pudding.
