Being an adult has its perks, namely when we get the chance to dunk a Thin Mint into a tall cup of chilled and sudsy … beer.
Fact: being a grown-up can be kind of a downer. First off, we have bills, social calendars, and all sorts of responsibilities we can no longer whine our way out of, no matter how hard we’ve tried. (Trust us, we’ve tried.) It’s rough. But then… every now and then, something graces our lives that shows us how rewarding it can be to be over 21. And today that reminder is this: the combination of Girl Scout Cookies and craft beer, compliments of Hop City, Scoutmob and beer aficionado Ale Sharpton.
Yup, ’tis the season of Thin Mints and Samoas, and if you’re anything like us, you’re on high alert of those little stands outside of grocery stores and small businesses shilling out those boxes of goodness. And to make it even better, we’re pairing ‘em with some sudsy, delicious, small-batch brews. But not just any brews, mind you. These will be brews hand selected from Hop City’s wonderfully curated menagerie of beers by the one and only Mr. Ale Sharpton (read: not his Christian name.) If you’re not already acquainted with Mr. Ale, he’s a one-of-a-kind character and brew blogger whose wheels never stop turning. “I love pushing the limits of creativity,” he tells us. Ale got his start under his former alias, Justin Case, with his column “Beer For The Pour” in Cypher magazine back in ’94. Ever since, he’s been sippin’ and sudsin’ his way around town – hosting events and reviewing beers of every ilk.
And Ale’s palette powers combined with the wonderment that is Hop City’s newest outpost in Krog Street Market is pretty much an unstoppable force of brew-lust in our book. Helmed by another one of Atlanta's Beer Aficionados in residence, Kraig Torres, Hop City has been responsible for honing many a beer-lover’s tastes since opening up his original shop on the Westside shop 6 years ago.
So really, what better way to greet Girl Scout cookie season than with the perfect elixir to accompany ‘em? At this event, Ale Sharpton will walk you through his four top pairings for those classic cookies of joy. Translation: you’ll have the chance to fill that Do-Si-Do shaped hole in your heart and then some. Enhance the pleasure of a refreshing Thin Mint or a hearty Samoa by hooking them up with a couple of small batch brews. That Crafty craft-lovin’ Ale has yet to reveal the list of featured beers he’s selected, but trust us that only the best of the best will be represented, as well as a range of Girl Scout Cookies, minus the minors who sell and benefit from them. (Sorry li’l tyke, this one is for those of us who pay the bills.) We’ll leave it to you to determine whether or not you’d like to dunk your Thin Mint into your milk stout.
