Get a healthy dose of witty news satire with Highwire Comedy Company's brand new show "Good Evening, Tonight" in their also-brand-new theatre facility.
Highwire Comedy Company started out with humble beginnings in 2013, when founder Ian Covell started offering classes out of a local yoga studio. Over the next couple years the company grew to offer a variety of classes in improv, stand up, and sketch writing, in addition to producing wild and original sketch and improv shows all around Atlanta. Covell describes this period as Highwire’s punk-rock era, with last-minute shows being put on in bars, pubs, and anywhere in town that was willing to host Highwire’s ridiculous brand of comedy. Fast-forward to 2016, and Highwire has traded in the rotating lineup of locations for a permanent theatre at Get Scene Studios in Midtown. But while they may have a professional new location, Highwire is still serving up the same helping of irreverent and unpredictable comedy that they’ve built their name on.
With original shows like Shakespeare Unscripted and Fusebox Sketch Comedy Explosion, as well as regular standup showcases and student grad shows, Highwire is the best place to experience the entire spectrum of live comedy almost any night of the week. At the top of the bill though, is Good Evening, Tonight, Atlanta’s only weekly scripted comedy show and, in our opinion, the ideal way to get a first look at Highwire’s awesome new theatre.
Good Evening, Tonight is a late night news variety show – think The Daily Show – created and hosted by Atlanta comedy veterans John Timmers and Paige Hamilton. Every Saturday the dynamic duo riffs on the previous week’s news stories from the desk and via several hilariously unpredictable segments. Timmers and Hamilton also employ the help of an all-star cast of guest reporters to keep you informed and laughing (but mostly laughing). Luckily, the comedy doesn’t end when the news does, because each show has its share of additional surprises, sometimes in the form of original sketches or improv performances. All of this takes place in Highwire’s intimate, 80-seat black box theatre, where you’ll be up close and personal to every joke and get to laugh shoulder to shoulder with your fellow audience members.
Our first look experience also includes a raffle ticket that could win you awesome prizes like free admission to a future show or some wearable Highwire Comedy swag (who doesn’t love a free t-shirt?). Your raffle ticket also serves as a voucher for a complimentary drink to sip on in those rare moments in between laughs.
