Glenwood Park’s Gunshow is likely the most one-of-a-kind restaurant in Atlanta. The concept driven eatery, created in 2013 by chef Kevin Gillespie – the brain behind Revival and Gamechanger coming soon to Mercedes-Benz Stadium– is a Brazilian churrascaria meets Chinese dim-sum mash-up that leads diners through a fun and unexpected restaurant experience. At Gunshow, diners get to interact directly with the chefs, who personally deliver dishes to each table from a constantly changing menu featuring brand new recipes on a weekly, and sometimes daily basis, so each visit is bound to be a completely new experience.
Although Gunshow is already one of the most unique dining destinations in town, six times a year they do something that takes things to the next level. Hired Guns, the brainchild of chef's Joey Ward and Kevin Gillespie, brings Atlanta diners face-to-face with some of the best culinary talent from cities across America. For each dinner in the Hired Guns series, Gillespie recruits one of his favorite chefs from another city to join his staff for one night and add some signature dishes of their own to the Gunshow menu. The guest chefs are set loose in the kitchen and given free reign to create whatever they can dream up, and trust us, this usually results in some crazy – and delicious – dishes. Not only will diners get to sample a few completely new dishes in addition to Gunshow’s already rotating menu, but they’ll also get to meet and interact with the visiting “hired gun” and hear their story in a unique and intimate chef’s table experience.
For September's edition of Hired Guns, Gillespie has partnered with Kristen Kish, who was born in South Korea and adopted into a family in Kentwood, MI where she showed an affinity for cooking at a young age. Her mother suggested she go to culinary school and since attending Le Cordon Bleu in Chicago, Kish has never looked back.
After moving to Boston, Kish worked in many high-profile restaurants including Michelin-star Chef Guy Martin’s Sensing and Barbara Lynch’s Stir as Chef de Cuisine, overseeing all back of house operations, including the design and execution of nightly menus and demonstration dinners for 10 guests. Kish competed on Bravo’s Top Chef Season 10 where she won the coveted title, becoming the second female chef to win the prestigious competition. She went on to become Chef de Cuisine of Menton, Chef Barbara Lynch’s fine dining restaurant. She left this position in 2014 to travel the world and write a cookbook. Most recently, Kish was co-host of “36 Hours,” a Travel Channel show that partnered with The New York Times to bring the hit newspaper column to television. In each episode, co-hosts Kish and Kyle Martino arrived in a new city where they had 36 hours to explore the most delicious foods and hot spots and experienced the best attractions unique to each place. Kish is currently traveling and working on her cookbook.
Years of experience will certainly result in some dishes that you won’t want to miss during Kish's night as Gunshow's guest chef. Patrons will be sent home with a souvenir menu signed by Kevin and Kish, as well as plenty of opportunities to take photos of both chefs throughout their dinner.
