Terminus Modern Ballet Theatre(TMBT), Atlanta’s newest contemporary ballet company, is thrilled to launch its spring season with a full-evening world premiere, “NEXT DOOR”.Created by Israeli choreographer Danielle Agami, the world premiere opens Friday, Mar.30 and runs through Saturday, Mar.31. NEXT DOOR will premiere at Kennesaw State University Dance Theater.
NEXT DOOR is Danielle Agami’s first evening-length creation with a company other than her own L.A Ate Nine company. For Terminus Modern Ballet Theatre, this marks their first commissioned work by a guest choreographer and collaboration with an artist outside the city of Atlanta. According to Agami, she is always fascinated by the world of each unique individual. In this work, she dedicated her research to exploring the human with each of the cast members. NEXT DOOR touches what is familiar, known, and dreamt by all of us. Realism is my favorite fantasy... or maybe it’s the other way around,” explains Agami. While celebrating the explosive yet sensitive physicality of the talented cast, Agami hopes the viewers enjoy the juxtaposition between the complexity of pedestrian experience and the dancers’ profoundly trained bodies.
“Danielle has a rare choreographic ability to show humor through the absurd, the levity is brought out and adds to the emotional depth of the movement,” chuckles John Welker, TMBT dancer, and Director. “We laughed a lot during the process!”Welker describes NEXT DOOR as “a demonstration of Agami’s unique ability to genuinely present individuals on stage with simplicity, yet with all the complexity of human nature.”The work features eight dancers including the founding five Terminus members. Two of the dancers, Paige Amicon and Jordan Lovestrand, complete the cast as guest performers recommended by Agami, along with local guest artist Devon Joslin. “They are a wonderful complement to our group,” says Welker “they help to make the whole experience of NEXT DOOR richer for both us and the audience. In addition to their added talent, we are also thrilled to be performing our first show at the new Kennesaw State University Dance Theater. It is truly a one-of-a-kind place to enjoy dance.”
“Before Terminus Modern Ballet Theater even puts a pointe shoe onto a Marley floor, it is already one of the most prominent dance troupes in Atlanta…there’s the star power perhaps the most recognizable faces in the Atlanta dance community from their tenures at Atlanta Ballet.”
