After more than a decade in business, Duck’s Kitchen is bringing their made-from-scratch food philosophy to the A.M. hours. With a new menu of classic handcrafted breakfast dishes, this quaint Decatur spot has us excited to wake up.
When Ann Duckworth opened Duck’s Kitchen in 2005, she intended to only offer take-out and catering. But as the East Decatur eatery’s fresh food offerings grew more and more popular and customers expressed a desire to dine in, the little kitchen expanded into a full sized restaurant. Now the neighborhood favorite is expanding once again, by opening its doors a little earlier every weekday morning and offering an all-new breakfast menu from 9-11.
The philosophy at Duck’s Kitchen is simple: make everything from scratch. And trust us, these folks don’t cheat. That means they’re squeezing fresh oranges for juice every morning (or seasonal winter grapefruits), and making each breakfast sausage in-house. Even the bread and scones are made from scratch every day.
All this attention to doing things right pays off in Duck’s Kitchen’s simple, flavorful morning entrees. In addition to offering the scones and granola from their weekend brunch menu, the breakfast menu also features some new morning dishes that will knock your socks off with deliciousness. ‘The Hammet’ (named after a friend of the restaurant who inspired the dish with her special requests) pairs chicken sausage-scrambled eggs with sliced avocado and tomato, resulting in a perfect veggie and protein packed, stick-to-the-ribs start to the day. For those who really like to load up their eggs, we recommend the ‘Spinach and Mushroom Scramble.’ As the name suggests, this dish features scrambled eggs packed with spinach, sautéed mushrooms, and fresh mozzarella, plus a side of roasted potatoes and a serving of bacon or sausage. Or, you can keep it simple and stick to the classic egg, potato, and bacon combo of ‘The Brunch Munch’. Finally, for all the sandwich lovers out there, ‘The Uptown’ combines eggs, bacon, and melty cheddar cheese onto a freshly baked croissant to create the perfect breakfast sammy.
