- 2 Entrees of your choice
Forget every mediocre Tex-Mex experience you've ever had because Sotolero couldn't be further from fake cacti and Speedy Gonzales combos. This cantina has the best of both worlds: a lively margarita-fueled vibe and a menu of legit made-from-scratch Mexican food just like your abuela makes. Being the sister restaurant to Grant Park’s Mezcalito, Sotolero has already become a pivotal part of the Decatur Community. The folks behind Sotolero have taken the kind of genuine, home-style tacos and burritos you'd find on Buford Highway and brought them into a cantina atmosphere, where the agave tequila flows freely and the ingredients are fresher than a ripe avocado.
Sotol is a distilled spirit that grows in a specific north region of Mexico. It can be found in desert like terrain which gives its unique earthy and sweet taste. Many times, it is accompanied with an orange to bring out its flavors. Sotol is smooth and can easily be taken as a shot or made in a margarita. Just like tequila, Sotol can be aged for different amounts of time in various oak barrels.
There are few of life's tribulations that can't be solved with a bowl of queso, a round of tacos, and a strong margarita. And really, you deserve much better than the once-frozen fare on a "Combination J" plate. Luckily, this lovely hidden spot and its tacos, burritos, and tequila are the perfect holy trinity... and there's nary a plastic cactus in sight!
