Prior to breaking her leg in a serious accident, Shelley Lowther was a yoga skeptic. But after discovering that yoga brought her real physical, mental, and spiritual healing, she became a believer - so much so, that she began teaching yoga classes herself, and eventually opened her first yoga studio in South Carolina in 2010. Since then, Dancing Dogs Yoga has grown to include four locations throughout the southeast, including its newest studio on Atlanta’s Westside. At Dancing Dogs, Shelley’s goal is to empower and inspire people through yoga, regardless of their background, the level of experience, or personal goals.
Classes at Dancing Dogs utilize the Baptiste method of yoga, which involves cranking the temperature up to 95 degrees. But unlike most hot yoga classes, this approach uses radiant heat - which warms your body instead of the air – thus creating a balanced, easy to breathe, and comfortable environment to practice yoga in. Each class also follows the guidelines of Power Vinyasa Yoga, in which practitioners transfer between moves in sync with their own breathing, at a quick but steady pace. This form of yoga is very flowy and approachable, plus the teachers use familiar, everyday language in their instruction, making Dancing Dogs a perfect place for yoga beginners.
Speaking of teachers, all eight of Shelley’s instructors are super experienced and have extensive training in the Baptiste yoga methodology. If you are new to Power Vinyasa Yoga or are limited by an injury or physical condition, the teachers at Dancing Dogs will modify their instruction specifically to your needs and abilities. Because of this level of care, Dancing Dogs draws an extremely diverse array of clients. Men and women from 15 to 70 years old and people on the scale of Average-Joe to Pro-Athlete and everything in between can be found at any given Dancing Dogs class. So, whether you’re unfamiliar with yoga but have a desire for physical and mental empowerment, or you already have advanced yoga skills but are searching for a more communal environment, Dancing Dogs Yoga is the place for you!
