Corrina Sephora’s unique and intimate studio workshops are the best way to learn the art of metalsmithing in Atlanta. Not only does her decades of experience make for a top-of-the-line education, but her beautiful Goat Farm studio on Atlanta’s Westside makes each of her workshops function more like relaxing artistic experiences than a class. Corrina’s newest workshop kills two birds with one stone - not only will you learn some techniques that have yet to be explored in her studio classes, but you’ll have the chance to create some kitchen tools that are beautiful and useful.
In this workshop, you’ll learn the ancient – and fun – art of ‘striking’. After annealing a stainless steel rod in the furnace, you and a classmate will alternate hammering it on an anvil with a pair of mallets, slowly flattening and forging the steel into a knife shape. This is metallurgy at its best – putting the power of fire and human strength against metal to create art. Eventually, after adding some additional embellishments with a variety of other techniques, you’ll have a pair completely usable kitchen tools. Depending on what you want, you can fashion your tools to function as oyster shuckers or as a pair of decorative knives that can be used on anything from jams and spreads to cheeses.
Corrina’s workshops are small and intimate – only 8 people per class – which means you’ll receive plenty of one-on-one instruction from your teacher, and you’ll have a chance to socialize with your classmates. Plus, once your kitchen tools are complete, you’ll get to immediately put them to use on some complimentary jams, dips, and other spreadable delights courtesy of Bella Cucina. This workshop could function as a unique date, a fun group activity, or even a solo adventure in which you’ll learn something new and meet some like-minded local art enthusiasts.
