The Iberian Pig’s fresh and eclectic take on Spanish cuisine is matched by an equally fresh and eclectic bar. Bar manager Ross has built a cocktail program that’s driven by fresh ingredients, craft drinks, and experimentation – and now he’s sharing some of his tricks of the trade in an interactive cocktail class that will explore vodka and all of its summertime possibilities.
The class is intimate and casual – you and your 15 classmates will be seated at the bar, and hands-on stations placed in between the seats will allow you to interact with your fellow imbibers. With summertime approaching, vodka is the perfect spirit to focus on, considering its versatility with a number of fresh ingredients and juices. After a brief overview of the spirit itself – its history and its properties – Ross will dive right into a practical demonstration on how to craft a couple vodka-based drinks.
First up is The Jane, an Iberian Pig signature cocktail that incorporates Ross’s love for unique and creative juices. The Jane is made with juiced red bell pepper, lemon, and dill-cardamom tincture. Ross describes this smooth and drinkable concoction as “the Bloody Mary’s more religious sister.” In other words, it’s a lighter version of the classic a.m. cocktail that you could drink 2 of with brunch without needing a nap afterward. The Jane will also serve as a great jumping off point to learn about juices and how you can incorporate available ingredients from your kitchen to create unique original juices and tinctures to use in your own cocktails.
For the next drink, you’ll get a little more buttoned up – and a little boozier. To balance out the one-of-a-kind flavors of The Jane, Ross will demonstrate how to perfectly execute a classic Vesper cocktail. Along with his demonstration, Ross will elucidate the history of this classy, 007-worthy beverage, from its roots in the classic martini to its more modern interpretations. To accompany your drinks – yes, you get to taste the goods – will be some complimentary tacos, empanadas, and other light bites from the Iberian Pig kitchen.
