Bennett’s Market is a picture perfect reflection of the entire Grant Park neighborhood – cheerful, eclectic and profoundly unpretentious. Inside, chipped paint, burlap sacks and smatterings of sunshine cover any surfaces that aren’t otherwise laden with the freshest of local foodstuffs. The true standouts here, however, are neither the part-vintage, part-makeshift furnishings nor the lean-yet-refined selections of beer, wine and pantry items. We're talking about the authentically delicious deli eats and the equally delightful service. Open for business since 2013, Bennett’s already has all the trappings of a longstanding luncheonette, including the line-up of familiar regulars. Victoria, the owner of Bennett's Market, revealed, “I think I was feeding the guys from the tattoo place next-door breakfast, lunch and dinner for a while.”
With the gourmet groceries and generously stacked sammies she’s slinging, those tatted fellas may be on to somethin’. Bennett’s deli sandwiches come either Atlanta-style or extra-thick New York-style. All the classics, from tangy Reubens to comforting Turkey Clubs, come on locally baked breads piled high with Thumann’s cold cuts (which Victoria swears are better than Boar’s Head). So between the variety of the menu and the quality of its contents, ordering one of these babies up thrice daily doesn’t seem so out there. Of course, if you’re feeling a bit less ambitious than that, we’re fairly certain that any one of Bennett’s Market’s ‘wiches could reverse a single mid-week lunch-rut, too.
For this, however, we encourage you not to take your meal on a lunch break (unless it’s followed by playing hooky) or even indoors. Yep, we want you to experience all the glory of summer and Atlanta’s expansive green canopy by taking two sandwiches, two sides (like potato chips or salad), a dessert (locally baked chocolate cake or cookies) and a whole bottle of wine (Victoria recommends the Spanish whites or reds) to your outdoor destination of choice. Back to the pool, across the street to Grant Park or up to Oakland Cemetery—the possibilities are endless for your day in the sun.
